You couldn't get a job at McDonald's and become District Manager after 143 days of experience. You couldn't become Chief of Surgery after 143 days of experience. You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the Superintendent after 143 days of experience. You couldn't join the military and become a General after 143 days of experience. You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the Nightly News Anchor after 143 days of experience.
BUT....
'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World .... 143 days. We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start, and strangely, a large sector of the American public is OK with this and campaigning for him.We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet many are OK with this for the President of the United States of America?Come on folks, we're not voting for the next American Idol!

do you have over 143 days of experience on politics, policies, and lives of political leaders and cantidates.
didn't think so
Thars not the point at all. Do you think 143 days is enough experience or for that matter making Obama more qualified thean Mccain?
He was a senior lecturer of constitutional law for 11 years, a state senator for the 5th largest state (GDP) for 8 years, a political science major at Columbia university, and has been politically active since graduating from Columbia in 1983.
It was good enough for Abraham Lincoln, and it's good enough for me.
Thats the problem. Obama has nerver worked in the real world or the private sector all his life. Being a professor is great but being isolated in a classroom doesn't give you experience. For someone who claims to be different he has the typical liberal politicians background. How does the size of a state or district matter, because the issues senators vote on are the same no matt where you're from.
Wrong again.
He also worked in the private sector as an editor for an international finance firm, as a civil rights attorney, and as a director for a non-profit organization.
Your notion of the "real world" is skewed toward running a business. Carly Fiorina said that neither McCain nor Palin (nor Obama or Biden) are qualified to run a major business, but that running the country is not the same as running a business.
The size of the state matters, IMO, because the stakes are higher and competition for office is greater. Being a successfull Chicago politician without becoming a sleaze bag also speaks volumes about his grit, determination, and character.
I also count the last two years of campaigning toward his experience. Basically he has spent that time touring the country, listening to people from every walk of life, winning debates against other politicians, consulting with our country's experts, formulating a plan for our country, answering journalists' tough questions, and meeting with foriegn leaders.
And about being an academic, David Brooks, the conservative political commentator had this to say about Obama:
And the other thing that does separate Obama from just a pure intellectual: he has tremendous powers of social perception. And this is why he's a politician, not an academic.
jsj, could you like, teach me a class on politics and political theory
because you are a genious
